Our congregation is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and all its cooperative agencies. The Regional Church (of which we are a part) is the Christian Church in Kansas (Disciples of Christ) at 2914 SW MacVicar Avenue, Topeka, KS.

We are also affiliated with Interfaith of Topeka, Inc., Kansas Christians United, the National Council of Churches in the United states of America, and the World Council of Churches. The General Church (with its offices in Indianapolis) provides guidance, counsel and ministry for all Christian Churches (DOC) in the US and Canada.

Worshiping with Us

Our worship style is largely traditional yet informal. Wear what you want — you’ll find us dressed in everything from suit and tie to sandals and t-shirts.

Our beliefs and practices

Baptism – We practice baptism by immersion when a person is old enough to have a foundational understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. We enter the waters of baptism to shed our old life and to rise with Christ into a newness of life.

Communion – We practice weekly observation of communion, which is also known as the Lord's Supper. At the Lord's Table we remember the saving gift of Jesus Christ and celebrate His living presence in our lives and with the church. All believers in Christ are welcome to partake of the emblems of the Lord's Supper.

Government – We have a congregational form of church government. The members of the congregation elect men and women to serve on the General Board, which conducts the business of the church.

Rev. Donna Gilchrist is an Okie at heart but is rapidly adapting to the Kansas culture. (Her sister even gave her a pair of red shoes when she accepted the call to West Side Christian Church. “Because every Kansan needs a pair of red shoes.”)

At Oklahoma State University (Go, Cowboys!) she earned undergraduate degrees in psychology and special education as well as a master’s degree in school guidance and counseling. While still teaching, Donna began attending Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, where she earned her MDiv in 2009. She was ordained later the same year. Donna has served in multiple church settings while in seminary and beyond. Throughout her ministry she has learned to trust the movement of the Holy Spirit in her own life and the lives of others.

Donna’s real passion is watching God transform lives. She enjoys helping people discover their gifts and abilities and empowering them to grow in their spirituality and leadership. She sees the Church as a dynamic part of the living body of Christ, with the ability to partner with God in righting injustice and creating positive change in local communities and the world.

When she’s relaxing, you might find Donna spending time with family or her dog. Long walks, good books, a new recipe, or time spent digging in the dirt are other pastimes.
